DETECTIVES have launched a murder inquiry after discovering that the death of a woman found following a Rodbourne house fire was not an accident.

Following an initial investigation, a 32-year-old Swindon man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and arson.

He is being held in police custody.

The news of the arrest comes after the body of a woman was discovered following a house fire in Rodbourne in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to the end of terrace property in Drew Street shortly after 5.30am. The body of a woman was found inside.

She has been named locally as Andraya Webb, a 39-year-old mother of two from the Swindon area.

Police forensics officers and investigators from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service sealed off the scene and erected large white tents outside the property as their investigations began.

Neighbours looked on in a state of shock as officers in white forensics suits made their way in and out of the property on the quiet street.

Detective Inspector Paul Catton, from Wiltshire Police, said: "Our enquiries will continue in the area around the address where the fire took place.

"I would like to thank the local community for their help and patience while we carry out our work.

"Also, I would like to appeal for anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the Drew Street and Morris Street area, in the earlier hours of Saturday morning, to contact us.

"When you do please quote Operation Meadow."

If you are able to assist the police with their investigation, you can contact them on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
