A MUSICIAN from Melksham is hoping for her recently signed song to be the Christmas hit of next year, after it picked up attention on social media.

Sylvia Novak, 51, of Hornbeam Crescent, had not long finished a music video for You Make Me Like Christmas when she was approached by Leopard Music which was interested in taking on her song.

Miss Novak, a law graduate and singer songwriter, said: “I have been struggling for quite a few years and I thought that Christmas music is a great way to make an impact as an artist and start making a bit of money.

“The song, You Make Me Like Christmas, is all about not liking the festive season but meeting someone that changes that. I shot a video with Roger Calcutt, who has done videos for a number of big names, and posted it on Twitter, it got a reaction straight away.”

The former George Ward pupil hopes that the popularity of the song will rise, helping her financially and professionally.

“My partner died in 2008 and since then I have been writing a lot of music. I have struggled with paying bills and everything like that so if the song did do really well then it would be so much help, it would be great to be self-sufficient, it is just a really exciting prospect,” Miss Novak added.

The musician, who numbers Kate Bush and Madonna among famous women singer/songwriters who have influenced her work, has aspirations that her song will be used across media platforms.

“I signed the contract with Leopard and they are going to start advertising it in February. I am hoping that it could be on the next Marks and Spencer advert. It would be great if it could be sung by someone like Kylie Minogue or if Simon Cowell wanted to use it. I have sent it to him so I shall wait and see," said Miss Novak.

With the taste of success still fresh, Miss Novak hopes that she can turn her passion into her career.

“My absolute passion is writing, music or poetry, and I want that and performing to become my career, it is something that I want to build on and aim for,” she added.
