SWINDON Pride will take place this year on Saturday, July 29, in Town Gardens, Old Town.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the start, in 1967, of the decriminalisation of homosexuality for England and Wales (1980 in Scotland and 1982 in Ireland) and the Swindon and Wiltshire Pride committee is keen to celebrate and mark this half-centenary.

The theme this year will be Celebrating Freedom which will also be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Swindon and Wiltshire Pride.

Several fundraising events will be held in the lead up to the event and anyone wishing to take part in those or the day itself should contact the volunteer manager on volunteerswpride@hotmail.com

The next fundraiser for Pride will be the Superhero’s Party on the Saturday, February 4, at The Mailcoach from 7.30pm until 11.30pm, with karaoke and Metson performing.

Those attending are asked to dress like as a superhero.

Jo Sharpe, who chairs Swindon and Wiltshire Pride, said: “Year on year Swindon & Wiltshire Pride has grown to become the vibrant and welcoming community event that people look forward to.

“To announce the date of our 10th year is momentous, and all those involved in the past and present events can be rightfully proud of their achievements and celebrate the help and support they have given in making this great event happen. “
