A 44-YEAR-OLD Swindon man who committed his fourth driving offence has received a suspended prison sentence and been disqualified from driving for four years.

Martin Sollis admitted refusing to give a sample of breath to police after he crashed his car earlier this year.

North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court on Thursday heard police found Sollis at the wreckage of his Citroen C5, which had come off Somerford Keynes Road on January 2, 2017.

Michelle Hewitt, prosecuting, said: “Police noticed he was unsteady, it appeared that he had soiled himself and he had the keys for the car in his pocket.”

He was taken to Gablecross Police Station where he was asked twice to provide a specimen, which he refused.

The court heard that Sollis had three other previous driving convictions, including in 2000 and 2005 when he was caught drink driving and in 2011 when he failed to provide a breath specimen.

Sollis, of Dartland Farm, Malmesbury Road, Leigh, was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and disqualified from driving for four years.

He was also ordered to perform 100 hours unpaid work, attend 25 rehabilitation days and pay costs of £200.

Returning his verdict, Judge Simon Cooper said: “Your regard for other road users in Wiltshire is non-existent.”
