SUE Ryder in the Brunel Centre will close its doors next month after a decade in the town centre.

A spokesman for the Brunel Centre said Sue Ryder decided against renewing their lease when it expires next month, with the store’s last trading day expected to be March 18.

The shop sells a variety of second-hand items including furniture, jewellery, clothing and bric-a-brac.

A volunteer who has worked in the two floor shop for more than six years said the details for the closure were still being ironed out and that staff were unclear what the plans were for the future.

One Sue Ryder shopper, who did not wish to be named, said Sue Ryder was the best charity shop in Swindon and that she was sad to see it go.

She said: “That’s really sad news. I have been coming in every week for 15 years. It’s a great place to find cheap things and the staff has always been lovely to me.

“It’s seemed a bit quieter in recent years but I wouldn’t have thought they would ever close it. It’s part of the town surely and it’s the best charity shop here. I am very sad to hear this.”

Those wanting to shop in Sue Ryder will now have to walk up to Victoria Road, Old Town or drive to Royal Wootton Bassett.

There are at least eight empty shop units in the Brunel with Sue Ryder set to add to that next month.

It is not yet known what will replace the two storey unit.

Jane Stewart, deputy manager of The Brunel said:

"The lease on Sue Ryder’s store in The Brunel Arcade expires next month and they have decided to close this store.

“We are expecting the last trading day to be Saturday, March 18 2017. We’d like to wish all of the Sue Ryder staff and volunteers well in the future.”

A spokesman for Sue Ryder was contacted for comment by the Adver but did not respond by our deadline.
