ARMED with tablets and computers, pupils at Cherhill C of E Primary School were taught the importance of staying safe online on Safer Internet Day.

The school, which has been celebrating Safer Internet Day since 2012, started the day on Tuesday, February 7 with an assembly promoting online safety led by Computing and IT teacher Katie Burton and the school's digital leaders.

Headteacher Terry Hall said: "We learned how to keep safe online during our internet safety whole school project. Children have shared their learning to parents and parents have had the opportunity to learn how to keep their children safe online. Staff also had this training and were amazed at what is available online."

Throughout the day pupils of all ages also looked at the positives and negatives of browsing online through the mediums of role play, discussion, pop quizzes and poster creations.

Safer Internet Day promotes the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

"We do a lot in school regarding online safety, but we were surprised at the amount of screen time children admitted to having," Mrs Burton added.
