CAMPAIGNERS and members of the public gathered at a vigil outside Devizes Hospital this morning to mark Saturday's closure of inpatient beds and maternity beds.
About 35 people gathered at 11am at the vigil yesterday organised by DASH2 (Devizes Action to Save Our Hospital).
Devizes mayor Julian Beinhorn said: "This is a very sad day for Devizes, the hospital and the people of Devizes."
Devizes MP Michael Ancram said his 15 years as the constituency MP had been marked by a "saga of broken promises" by successive health bosses who had promised a new community hospital.
He urged everyone to continue fighting for health services at the proposed Primary Care Centre at Green Lane.
A two minute silence was held.
Among those who gathered at the vigil was heavily pregnant Louise Jurkiewicz of Victoria Road, Devizes.
Miss Jurkiewicz who gave birth to her two-old son Tom at Devizes Maternity Unit doesn't know where she will give birth to her baby who is due in a week's time.
