FAMILIES flocked to the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon to take part in workshops and have a look at the work of local pupils at this year's My Science Fair.

Over 300 people visited the centre in Ashley Road on Sunday (March 5) for a free and fascinating day of science and music with hands-on workshops, games and demonstrations. Parents and children had the chance to see some interesting and creative projects put on display from pupils in the local area.

Karl Bevis, head for creative learning at the centre, said: “We were very pleased with the response we had from people. There were lots of families coming up, not just the families of the children who had work on display. The entrants were from reception to Year 7 with homemade science projects like robots or music related inventions.

“The entries were looked at by a panel of judges and they were very impressed by what the children had made.”

The fair, which began in 2013, also hosted a number of activities such as virtual reality workshops and music making workshops. The crowd was also treated to performances by members of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment with Professor Russell Foster and animator Mark Withers.

“Interestingly we had a sleeping pattern workshop where we looked at how music affects out sleep, it was really interesting. The whole centre was buzzing with activity, we already have ideas on what we can do next year,” added Mr Bevis.

“Because days like this were free, it wouldn’t be possible without sponsorship from people like NFU Mutual, the Institute of Physics and the Holmes Hines Memorial Fund. We also had prizes donated to us by @Bristol and Woolley Grange which was lovely.”
