THE Wiltshire Music Centre has been chosen to play host to the premiere of a world-famous orchestra's performance of a piano concerto.

The Academy of St Martin in the Fields will be performing at the centre in Ashley Road, being lead by Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan, the ensemble will be showing the audiences Piano Concerto No.2, The Haunted Ebb, composed by Alasdair Nicolson.

Mr Nicolson is one of Scotland’s most famous composers as well as being the former artistic director of Bath International Music Festival. The performance in Bradford is the starting point of the orchestra’s tour before they head off to the United States.

“My Piano Concerto No.2, The Haunted Ebb takes its name from a collection of poems by Sorley MacLean, a poet who was, like me, from the Island of Skye. Time and again I am drawn back to the music of my island upbringing, and I have used some of the ancient songs and tunes from Skye as themes in this piano concerto,” said Mr Nicolson.

“This is my first commission from the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and for the Piano Concerto No.2 to receive its world premiere in Wiltshire and be taken on a tour of the USA with their wonderful musicians and outstanding soloist Inon Barnatan, is a real honour and delight for me.”

The concert will be taking place at the centre on Tuesday (March 14) at 7.30pm. Tickets can be booked at www.wiltshiremuisic.org or by calling 01225 860100. Tickets cost £14 for children and pupils and £28 for adults.
