Comedian Simon Brodkin, aka Lee Nelson, was so smitten with Taylor Swift he decided to wreak revenge on Kanye West following his interruption of her acceptance speech at the MTV awards.

In the character of Lee, the comedian who is a master of the hoax, blagged his way through the crowds at Glastonbury Festival to the inner sanctum of the Pyramid Stage, where the famous rapper was strutting his stuff in front of a crowd of around 1,000 festival-goers.

"I talked the talk and walked the walk carrying a £7.99 kids' toy microphone, and then ran on stage. Kanye did not see the funny side. If it had been Oasis they would have sung a song with me, but I think he thought I was Eminem so the security guards carried me off,'' said Lee.

Glastonbury is a huge festival and Lee was appearing on the Comedy Stage right at the other side of the field. So, he had to run across the site, which normally takes an hour, in 45 minutes to make sure he was not late for his own performance.

"I got there but I had lost my lanyard so the security guards wouldn't let me in!''

Lee gave up studying medicine to make people laugh.

"Laughter is the best medicine but don't stop taking your tablets,'' he said.

The comedian will not have to gatecrash the Wyvern Theatre when he brings his new show to Swindon on Wednesday, March 29 from 7.30pm.

He said that Swindon is always a nice gig to do and he likes the cross section of people who come to have a laugh with him.

"You can expect to have a laugh,'' he said. "In the first half I talk about my life, my new two-month old baby George and tips on how to treat a lady. The second half we go round the world talking about Brexit and India. I voted to leave because I thought people were talking about Scotland!

"I talk about travelling in India, and tracking down the man who said he would help with my landline problems.''

The king of hoaxes is not afraid to take risks and last year, when Donald Trump visited Scotland to open a golf course, Lee blagged his way into the press call. He interrupted the speech and handed out golf balls covered with swastikas saying they were the new Trump range.

"Trump is not known for his sense of humour, so it came to a battle for custody whether I was taken by the CIA or the Scottish police. Luckily for me the Scotts won and after a few hours in a police van, handcuffed and drinking Lucozade the officers persuaded the secret service to stand down, it was on the understanding I was put on a flight out of the country. I think they thought Scotland was rather like the Mexican border.''

Lee has appeared on various TV shows including BBC 1's Absolutely Fabulous, Channel 4's The Morning After Show, Al Murray's Multiple Personality, Let's Dance for Comic Relief, and he was commissioned to write his own show for BBC 3 called Lee Nelson's Well Good Show.

"That was great fun, working with Omelette, my best mate from Swindon,'' said Lee.

But his near perfect hoax was on Britain's Got Talent when he auditioned as the Rapping Rabbi.

"I got through to the results stage the live semi-finals and got four 'yesses' but then they saw a close-up and my fake nose was falling off, which was a bit of a giveaway,'' said Lee, who not surprisingly was featured last month in the TV programme Britain's Greatest Hoaxer.
