PROSPECT Hospice has been given a much needed financial boost thanks to the generosity of Ridgeway School students who raised over £1,200.

The sixth form students hold a charity quiz in aid of their local hospice every year and following their March 3 event, they were able raise a total of £1,272.

On Friday, the students behind the quiz were able to hand over the fruits of their labour to Prospect Hospice Community Fundraiser Mike Kennedy who visited the school.

Head of Sixth Form Helen Dixon said she was immensely proud of the students who have been planning the quiz for months.

“This year the quiz was supported by over 200 people who came along on the night and it is a big event for our students because they organise it all by themselves.

“Because Prospect is a local charity to us, we try to do a lot in the community around Wroughton and it is a cause which is close to our hearts.

“Cancer is not something that happens to everyone but it can affect a lot of people. Our students have relatives or other close family friends who have been cared for by Prospect Hospice and so it is nice that we are able to do something for a cause which is relatable."

To date, Ridgeway School students have raised over £13,000 from numerous events for Prospect.

Helen added: “The success of the quiz night shows how truly dedicated the students are and part of our ethos is taking responsibility, doing work in the community and looking after others.

"By having someone from Prospect come in to accept the money really showed them that not everyone has it as easy as they do.”
