THE list of vinyl to be released especially for this year’s Record Store Day was revealed at celebrations organised by some of Swindon’s vinyl specialists.

Holmes Music and RPM Records held events at the Tuppenny and Darkroom Espresso on Tuesday night with giveaways and live music to mark the occasion.

RPM Records co-managing director Gregg Miszkowski spoke about how he’s getting involved in the global event for the first time.

He said: “I’m really excited about it, the response from people has been amazing.

"We’ve had interest from so many people, some who have been collecting for 40 or 50 years and some from a new generation of vinyl lovers who are just starting their collections.”

More than 500 records will be on sale in-store only on the day itself, April 22, the tenth anniversary of Record Store Day.

The first new release from the David Bowie vaults will be the biggest draw for collectors and music fans.

A concert performed by the late rock star in LA in 1974 during his Diamond Dogs tour will be available, featuring a completely different band and setlist to his other 1974 concert album David Live.

The three-album set has tracks from Diamond Dogs and Aladdin Sane and material that was originally supposed to be in Young Americans that never made it onto the album.

His collaboration with Placebo ‘Without You I’m Nothing’ is also being released for the first time on picture disc vinyl.

Other notable releases include The Cure’s greatest hits and acoustic songs on deluxe vinyl, Bruce Springsteen’s first-ever UK live show, a previously-unheard version of The Smiths’ single ‘Boy with the Thorn in his Side’, and a live album from Iggy Pop with support from Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age.

Kate Nash, Slaves, Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre, Kate Tempest, and Izzy Bizu were named as official Record Store Day champions yesterday.

The wide range of releases aren’t limited to rock and metal.

Pop fans can purchase a mid-80s Madonna EP which was previously only available in Argentina, a brand new song from Bastille, a neon edition of girl group Little Mix’s Glory Days album, and even a reissue of Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ on pink vinyl to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The list features a few oddities like an album of childrens’ songs by Johnny Cash available on vinyl for the first time since 1975, Toto’s classic ‘Africa’ released on a disc in the shape of the continent, and a double album of the first-ever Doctor Who audio drama, where Tom Baker’s Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen defend London from an alien race of humanoid sharks.
