A MAN was knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked to the body and head in Warminster town centre at the weekend.

The man, in his 50s, was walking home with his wife and another couple at around 11.20pm on Sunday night when they were confronted by a group of four unknown men.

Unprovoked, the man was then verbally abused and threatened with a bottle before the gang knocked him to the ground and kicked his body repeatedly and his head once.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or information to help them with the investigation.

PC Briant, who can be contacted via 101, said: "We know this group of males had just been asked to leave one of the pubs due to rowdy immature behaviour. It appears one of them has been showing off outside and made childish lewd offensive remarks to the victim’s wife as they passed by a short while later.

“Thankfully the victim has suffered no serious injuries but the dangers of kicking someone in the head while they are laying on the ground are obvious and it's also very cowardly.

“Incidents like this are not common place in Warminster and I am in the process of investigating CCTV.

“If anyone in our community can help me speed up the identification process I would be very keen to have that conversation with them.”

The offenders are described as young white men, aged between 18-20, one wearing a light grey top and another in dark clothing.

They spoke with local accents and were last seen in the Market Place at around 11.30pm on Sunday night.
