A CAFÉ in the centre of Trowbridge has re-opened after a major refurbishment and will now operate as a bar at weekends after securing a license.

Leykers, which was founded in 1999, will now open until 11pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays serving a range of tempting alcoholic beverages including Meantime pale ale, Peroni, cocktails and more from next month.

During the two and a half week transformation period the café’s staff fully renovated the interior to give it a classy look and have adorned the walls with pictures and murals showcasing the town’s heritage, including Trowbridge Town Hall, Ushers Brewery and River Biss.

Business owner Tracy Parker, 45, who runs it with her husband Graham, said: “It’s taken a lot of hard work to get to this stage but we’re delighted with how it looks and we’ve had lots of positive feedback from customers so far.

“I grew up in The Castle pub where my dad was the landlord so it’s been a long-term aim of mine to get Leykers licensed.

“The idea is to make it a hub in the town centre and we really want the space to be used by the community.

“We have increased our kitchen space and have improved our menu, which now includes a full English breakfast, breakfast pancakes, steak ciabattas and much more, all sourced locally.

“On Thursday evenings we plan to welcome local bands to play here, so if you’re a band looking for a gig, please get in touch.”

All of the cakes on sale in the café are made in store and the coffee is brewed in Hilperton, with the aim of using as many local links as possible.

Mrs Parker, 45, took over the reins of the Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce last month and wants other independent businesses in the town to follow suit in a bid to attract new businesses to Trowbridge.

She added: “I want local business owners to take pride in their businesses and invest to encourage more people to come into the town centre and more businesses to start up here.

“We’ve been very busy since re-opening on Good Friday which highlights that people do still want to come into the centre, and we are really looking forward to opening in the evenings.”

Leykers will be open between 7am-5.30pm from Monday to Wednesday, 9am-4pm on Sunday and from 7am-11pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, starting next month.
