POLICE sealed off an area in Byron Street, near Morrisons, after a man was attacked early today.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman confirmed that a call was received at about 12.20am today and a man aged 19 was taken to the Great Western Hospital for treatment.

He suffered a broken collar bone, head injuries and wounds to his face during the attack outside Byron's Wine Bar and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Eight people - five men and three women all from the Swindon area - have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

An area was taped off while forensic investigations took place today.

DS Mark Lewis, from Swindon CID, said: "This is believed to be an isolated incident and our enquiries are continuing. We would like anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault to come forward and speak with us.

"It was very busy in this area of town at the time of the incident and I'm sure there will have been further witnesses to the incident."

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
