CROWDS are set to go absolutely quackers this Bank Holiday Monday as the 15th annual duck race returns to the Westcott Recreation Ground.

Thousands of rubber ducks will set sail on an aquatic adventure, with only one fitting the bill to be crowned champion and hook their owner a cool £1,000.

The proceeds from this year’s event, sponsored by Nationwide, will go towards the Brighter Futures radiotherapy appeal and Wiltshire Treehouse which provides bereavement support for children and young people.

A team of 30 committee members have been working on the event since last summer.

Club president Chris Hext said: “It is a truly local event, local businesses, local schools, local people all having a great time. It is all about having fun and that’s why I love this event so much. We all turn up, no matter what the weather and it’s an amazing fun day.

“It is very entertaining because people get very competitive and really get into the spirit of the day. I look forward to seeing who wins.”

The Drakes Race for businesses will begin the day’s race activities followed by the schools race before the grand finale duck race.

The day also includes a fun dog show including awards for the dog with the waggiest tail, most handsome dog, dog that most resembles its owner and best junior handler and live music.

Rubber ducks will be available to buy on the day. Last year more than £13,000 was raised for worthy causes.

The duck race will be held on Monday from 10am to 4pm
