A RETRO street party is being thrown next week to celebrate the history of Savernake Street.

The 1950s-themed Neighbourhood Party kicks off at midday on Sunday, June 4.

Savernake Street will be closed off for several hours as bunting, decorations and tables are set out along the street.

Guests can bring along a plate of cold food for the shared community lunch.

Vintage entertainment on offer at the Savernake Street Social Hall will include live music from the Chocolate Candy Band playing '50's and '60's hits, and local band Sweet Nightingale.

There will also be dancing, a history display, facepainting, ice cream, a raffle, and a marionette performance from Noisy Oyster with puppets made in the 1950s.

All raffle proceeds will go back into funding the hall and more fun activities to be organised by the Eastcott Community Organisation.

The nostalgic event is part of the charity's year-long project, funded by a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, to highlight the history of the hall and local area.
