CHILDREN who told cancer where to go when they took part in their own Race For Life have presented £1,000 to charity.

The youngsters from Chirton Primary, near Devizes, had special reason to run their hearts out for Cancer Research UK as two members of staff have been affected by the disease.

Support teacher Emma Camacho is now back at work after being treated for breast cancer but teaching assistant Tracey Gay was then diagnosed soon after Mrs Camacho was back at her desk.

The school decided to run the year's Race For Life to support her and on Monday a cheque was handed over to the charity at an afternoon assembly.

Head teacher Amy Bekker-Wrench said: "It is an amazing sum of money from our school which lives up to its motto Little School With A Big Heart.

"I am always proud of our children and their achievements but the compassion and care they have shown over the last few months, during a very emotional time, has been truly incredible.

"We talk openly about how inspirational these two ladies are and the importance of continuing to fight against this dreadful disease. Upon completion, everyone was treated to a piece of delicious cake, made by our talented Mrs Gay herself, which displayed a clear, poignant message upon it, Cancer Sucks.
