Fans of Volvo cars will have the chance to ride in their favourite vehicles when they get together for an annual fundraising track day.

The event, at Castle Combe Circuit on Friday June 30, is the eighth to be organised for the High Performance Volvo Club, T5D5.

Some 40 cars will be on the track during the day, which runs from 9am to 4pm, driven by members from T5D5 and the Pistonheads forum.

There is free entry for spectators, with an opportunity for passenger laps for a donation of £20. These will be available from the Strawford Centre at Castle Combe Circuit during the day.

Sponsors for the event are City Motors Volvo in Bristol and Chippenham-based RTS Group, which provides learning and development to automotive manufacturers’ retail networks. Representatives from Volvo Cars UK will be present.

Organising the track day are Volvo enthusiasts Simon Chiu - who works with RTS Group as a training consultant for Volvo – and Ashok Paul, an NHS doctor.

“This is an annual social occasion when forum members from T5D5 across the country meet for some track enjoyment. This year, we even have a small group travelling all the way from Malaysia,” said Simon.

“It’s an opportunity to explore the limits of road cars in a safe and controlled environment. Most of the cars which will be used on the day have been modified in one way or another and it is an opportunity to experience how all the modifications come together.

“Over and above that, it’s a charity event, and a way of giving something back to causes which are close to both our hearts.”

This year, funds will go to the Great Western Air Ambulance. In previous years, beneficiaries have included the DEC Haiti Appeal, Save the Children, Dorothy House Hospice, the Japanese Tsunami Appeal, The Fire Fighters Charity, and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Malcolm Miller, RTS Group Managing Director, said: “We’re more than happy to support this event which is raising money for such a great cause.”

City Motors Sales Director, Mike Collett said: “It is a pleasure to sponsor and support this event for the second consecutive year. Simon and his team work really hard to achieve what is always a great event.”
