ORGANISERS of this year’s scaled-down Village Pump Festival have met on site to finalise plans.

Priming The Pump was born out of the ashes of the long-running folk festival, which enjoyed its final outing last summer.

Saddened by the decision to pull the plug on the festival, a group of five hardcore Pumpers consisting Jean Chatfield, her daughter Charlotte Chatfield, Jerry Gale, Rosemary Waters and Ann Hartley decided to resurrect it.

Mrs Chatfield, from Cornwall, said: “We met up on Friday to clarify where everything is going to go and we're sure it's going to be a fantastic event.

“We all live across the country from Cornwall to Grimsby so meeting up is a rare opportunity.

“We’ve got some exciting plans for this year’s event and we’re going to use it as a fundraiser, with the money going towards a bigger festival next year if it goes well.”

The festival’s former chief organiser, John Alderslade, made the decision to cancel the festival after falling short by 500 in ticket sales and a dwindling team of volunteers last summer.

It first ran in 1974, when tickets were just £2.50, and has spanned three different locations.

There will be one main stage at this year’s festival in the White Horse Country Park clubhouse, as well as a marquee in the camping field where people can bring their own instruments to play with each other.

Acts so far confirmed include Roving Crows, Ben Maggs, Screaming Harlots, Cardboard Fox and more.

“We’re very excited to be starting the festival up again and we’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as new people,” added Mrs Chatfield.
