WILTSHIRE Police is appealing for witnesses after a dog walker was assaulted in a "particularly nasty attack" in Trowbridge in the early hours of this morning (Friday, June 16).

The incident happened on Pitman Avenue around 3am where a group of unknown males assaulted the man who was walking his dog at the time.

The victim was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance with injuries to his head and face - he is currently being treated there.

A 20-year-old local man was arrested soon afterwards on suspicion of robbery and is currently in custody.

Community co-ordinator Alex Trombetta said: "We would like to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in this area of Trowbridge in the early hours of today.

"This was a particularly nasty attack and we are still looking for other males who were involved in this incident; if you know of anyone involved or have any information which might help our investigation, please contact us."
