A MAN in his 30s was punched in the face and had his bag taken in a midnight assault near Queen's Park.

Police say the man was sitting on a wall outside Queen's Park on Drove Road in the early hours of Wednesday, May 24, listening to music on his headphones.

He was approached by a woman at around 12.15am and, while they were speaking, a man hit him in the face.

As he tried to get up from the floor he was punched by another man.

His rucksack was taken and the woman and two men walked away.

The man suffered injuries to his face, including a fractured eye socket.

He made his way to the ambulance station on nearby Queen's Drive, where police were called after the man complained of being robbed.

PC Matt Robinson said: "Unfortunately, our victim cannot recall the descriptions of his attackers nor the direction they walked off in, but we'd like to speak to anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the area of Queen's Park or the ambulance station in the early hours of Wednesday, May 24."
