KEEN gardeners and allotment growers in Bradford on Avon are digging for victory in the hope of beating their bitter rivals.

The town council has announced that this year’s Flower Show will be held on Sunday, 10 September and the event is sure to result in some keen but friendly competition.

This year, there are a massive 101 classes to enter – the most ever listed. New categories include ‘Gluten-free chocolate cake’, a vegetable that most resembles the town’s Mayor, Cllr David Garwood, and the largest sunflower head.

One of the competitions includes the Great Bradford on Avon Plug Plant Challenge, with plants being supplied by the Avonfield Garden Centre at Hilperton.

The plug plants can be collected and nurtured over the summer. The winner will be the person who has grown the biggest plant.

John Potter, one of the Flower Show committee members, said: “We hope you will enjoy pondering over and choosing which categories ‘catch your eye.

“We look forward to receiving your entries and wish you good luck with your exhibits. Meanwhile ‘Keep Growing’ and we’ll see you there!”

The full schedule of classes is now available to view online on the Bradford on Avon Town Council website http://www.bradfordonavontowncouncil.gov.uk/.

Schedules will be sent out next week to previous entrants; however, if you can't wait that long please view them on the council’s website.

This year, entrants will be able to send in forms electronically. The forms can be downloaded from the website.
