Adventurer and explorer Alex Staniforth has climbed Milk Hill as part of a 72 day challenge spanning the length and breadth of the UK.

The hill in Devizes, that reaches 295 m / 968 ft above sea level, was picked by the young explorer as he attempts to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest 13 times to raise thousands for charity.

Cycling, running and walking the distance, Mr Staniforth described climbing the Wiltshire landmark, which is the highest point of the county, as a memorable highlight of his tour.

The 22-year-old, who is from Chester, Cheshire, said: “Whereas some of the climbs have been very similar, Milk Hill was impressive because I remember turning a corner and then out of nowhere seeing the view with paragliders and of course the white horse which was impressive.

“Finding the highest point was very interesting around there. What struck me was how you can come out of the town and then very quickly you are in this haven.”

With just five days left to go on his 72 days challenge, Alex has already begun thinking about reaching home and kicking off his walking boots.

Over £16,000 has already been raised for Young Minds UK, a mental health charity that has provided support to Mr Staniforth with his own mental health issues.

“The first thing I will do once I get home will be to sleep, and enjoy doing nothing, having the freedom to be able to rest without thinking about the next day and challenge.

“I was waking up before everyone in the hostels and getting home later than everyone, it has been the most physically and mentally challenging thing I’ve ever done. What I’ve been most impressed with is my own ability to keep on going despite the exhaustion, which has been down to the support I have had throughout other member of the public.”

Mr Staniforth’s goal is to raise £20,000 by the end of the Climb the UK challenge.
