Primary school pupils have taken part in their long standing tradition of annual sailing day.

The year 6 leavers at Dilton Marsh C of E School spent the day in the water learning to how to sail and taking part in games and competitions as a last treat before leaving the primary school.

The day at Westbury Lake was organised by the West Wilts Youth Sailing Association, and has now become a tradition which the year 6 leavers look forward to.

Vicki Hallam, office manager, who went on the sailing day said: "The children always look forward to their sailing day, it's like a last treat for them before they leave the school.

"The skills they learn are valuable in the sense that they get the opportunity to learn things they may not have otherwise.

"As well as that they all have great fun."

The day consisted of learning how to sail and taking part in races and various challenges such as hopping across the overturned boats.

Nicky Cross, member of West Youth Sailing Association said: "We have been holding sailing days with the year 6 pupils of Dilton Marsh for over 30 years, we started when my son Tim was in year 6.

"We teach the children the basic skills of sailing and by the afternoon they have mastered it.

"They also have great fun playing the games and competitions.

"Its a pleasure to host this day for the children and thanks must go to all the volunteers and those involved."
