OLD Town singing sensation Lewis Blissett has been announced as part of the line-up for this year’s Christmas lights switch-on.

His aunt Kate Pitts Drake began a campaign on Friday to get the local lad to perform at the event and be the star guest who gets the honour of switching on the town centre's Christmas lights.

She quickly received support from more than a hundred people.

Shortly after this was reported by the Adver on Wednesday in a popular online article, inSwindon executives decided to officially include the 13-year-old in this year's festive festivities.

Di Powell, BID chief executive, said: “We have all been actively following and cheering on Lewis throughout the Voice Kids auditions.

“He is so talented and has so much potential to be a big star, inSwindon BID would love Lewis to be part of the town centre celebrations and we can’t wait for him to perform.

“Plans are already underway to make this year's Christmas lights switch on bigger and better than before and inSwindon have some surprises up their sleeve so watch this space.”

Lewis will be one of the people switching on the Christmas lights this year, with other star guests yet to be announced.

This year’s big switch-on is due to take place on Saturday, November 18.
