THE 10th Swindon and Wiltshire Pride is set to be a spectacular celebration marking 50 years of the decriminalisation of homosexuality.

On Saturday, people from all over Wiltshire will follow the rainbow to Swindon as they come together in love and understanding.

Organiser Phoenix Stewart, 32, who is part of a team of dedicated people who make sure the event runs without a hitch year after year, has spoken about why this year’s event is extra special.

Phoenix said: “It’s incredible to think that, if you go back just 50 years, homosexuality was illegal. We have come so far in such a short space of time, and this weekend is intended to celebrate that milestone.

“Pride is a fun event for all the family. There will be singing and dancing all day as well as a range of educational stalls and activities to engage with.

“I think it’s important to show people, especially younger people who may still be figuring out who they are, that it’s ok to be gay and that there are other people out there who are just the same.

“The parade is proudly sponsored by Wiltshire Police, the Wiltshire Police Federation and Unison Wiltshire Police & Justice.

“We would like to thank them for their continued support, as well as members of the organising committee and everyone in the community who has supported us.”

The event will be held at Town Gardens, Old Town.
