GRANDMOTHER Jacqueline Bendle is to brave the shave to raise money for charity after a number of family members and friends were diagnosed with cancer.

Mrs Bendle, 69, of Brickley Lane, Devizes is joining her son Martin, 51, who lives in Westbury to go under the razor on September 3 at 8pm at Mr Bendle's local the Bell Inn.

Both will have their hair completely shaved in a bid to raise about £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Mrs Bendle, who is a retired dentist receptionist, is being supported by her partner Robin Sawyer, her daughter Abigail and her five grandchildren.

She said: "At the moment I am not really feeling fazed by the idea of having my head shaved. I know some people just have it cut really short but I wanted to go completely bald to show support for people who are suffering from cancer."

Mr Sawyer's first wife Ann died from cancer and a number of other family members have also been affected. She said: "We know a lot of people who have been through cancer and have had help from Macmillan."

She and her son have had brave the shave t-shirts made to help boost their sponsorship. Mrs Bendle said: "I go to a Slimming World club at the Conservative Club so I take my sponsorship forms with me and wave them under people's noses.

"I have lived in Devizes for 51 years so I know a lot of people in town and quite a few people have offered to sponsor me. I hope on the night we will collect even more."

Her son said: "I have had members of my wife's family that have passed after having cancer. Also relatives of my family that are going through cancer treatment. I think everyone knows a family member, friend that has been affected by cancer. I just felt inspired to do something. Every little helps. I am also doing this with my dear old mum at the Bell inn pub in Westbury. I hope people will come along and support a great cause."
