REGENT Circus will boast a new eating attraction in the coming months with the arrival of an Indian buffet restaurant.

Tiffins, as the new venue will be called, will take its place in the largest of two vacant units upstairs at the site, opposite Gourmet Burger Kitchen and immediately adjacent to the stairs down from the upper level car park.

The chain was launched in Wales and currently has two existing branches, one in Newport and the other in Cwmbran.

The buffet concept in operation at the existing outlets allows diners to enjoy as much food as they like in one visit.

But unlike some buffets, there is also an a la carte menu for those with a more particular or selective taste.

The company describes its venues as being created to “give you everything you need for a great night out. Great food and drink, great customer service, great music in a modern environment. A place where you can come for a party with friends and family or a quiet, romantic meal for two.”

The chain’s founders have explained why the name Tiffins has been chosen.

“Tiffin is a British English slang term of second breakfast or lunch,” they say.

“It’s sometimes applied to any light meal. It originated in British India, and is today found primarily in Indian English.

“The word originated when Indian custom superseded the British practice of an afternoon tea, leading to a new word for the afternoon meal.”

While few details are available about the launch of the Swindon venue, workmen have moved into the unit at Regent Circus this week leading to suggestions that the opening won’t be too far away.

When the site was first opened with great fanfare in 2015, customers were disappointed to see that not all the units had been let.

The spot set to be occupied by Tiffins was originally marketed as a Jimmy’s World Bar and Grill but the firm did not end up moving in.

Pricing and menu details are yet to be announced for the Swindon branch of Tiffins but the firm’s two existing outlets provide an indication of what customers might be able to expect.

The Newport restaurant, for example, offers a day rate, a seniors' rate and an evening rate, with the latter priced at £11.95 from Monday to Thursday and £13.95 on Fridays and at weekends.

Reviews on Trip Advisor appear mostly positive, with both Newport and Cwmbran scoring 4.5 out of five on Trip Advisor.

Some 63 per cent of customer reviews at the Cwmbran venue, out of a total of 596, were described as excellent. In Newport, that figure was 74 per cent, based on the verdicts of 225 customers.
