BREXITEERS marched through the town to shouts of ‘Out! Out! Out!’ in a vocal attempt to remind politicians that the UK last year voted to leave the European Union.

An army of Leave supporters gathered at the Cenotaph to hear speeches before parading down Regent Street with placards and Union Jacks.

Organiser Martin Costello, who stood as the UKIP candidate for South Swindon in June’s General Election, said: “We want to send a clear message to Number 10 that we are not going to stand for any backsliding on Brexit.

“We want to make it perfectly clear that we voted to come out of the EU, and we will accept no less.

“People are losing confidence in the Government’s ability to take us out and it’s important to make our voices heard.”

The march coincided with a series of pro-EU demonstrations – billed as Exit from Brexit – which took place at various locations across the country on Saturday.

One leaver, Paul Carter, from Melksham, said he had taken part in the march in order to “put our case across” following fears that Brexit was being “watered down”.

“There were only two options on the ballot paper and we voted to leave. It’s as simple as that,” he said.

The event was also attended by representatives from The People’s Charter, a group described by director Luke Nash Jones as “pro-Trump, pro-Brexit” and styled on the American Tea Party.

Luke said: “Our nation is in a very dark place. The London-centric politicians don’t care about us, they only care about lining their own pockets.

“Theresa May’s Brexit is a fake Brexit. We want a proper Brexit.”

Touching on the ongoing EU negotiations, Luke said: “We are not equal to Germany. We don’t need them but they need us.”

For Clare Sanderson, 53, from Old Town, the march was all about reminding those in power that they have “a duty to take us out of Europe”.

She said: “There can be no second chances or second votes. Leave must mean leaving and it must mean leaving as soon as possible.”
