PEOPLE in Devizes were quick to help people whose homes and lives have been devastated by hurricane Irma after Devizes Rotary Club held a street collection.

Geoff Collins from the club said: "The Rotarians of Devizes would like to thank the generous people of Devizes when they had a Street Collection for a Shelter Box, each costing £590, to help those in need due to Hurricane Irma.

"The amount raised on this occasion was £568:66 which is already on it's way to Shelter Box who are continuing to ship much needed supplies to help alleviate the enormous suffering caused by the hurricane.."

The Rotary Club members went into action after the hurricane swept across the Caribbean island of Barbuda, and devastated vast areas of St Martin, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, South Eastern Bahamas and Florida.

Another £500 is to be sent by the club to help with the clear up effort.
