POST Office users in Stratton were handed a lifeline on Tuesday as the new counter was officially opened in a local Costcutter store.

Staff at the Rayner Close shop welcomed Stratton St Margaret Parish Councillors to the grand unveiling of the Post Office counter intended to help the community with all their postal requirements.

Store owner Sathy Sivashankar said: “I am very proud to be able to reopen this Post Office service counter after a two-month revamp.

“The people of Stratton were missing it and made it clear that it is a very important service for them.

“This will make things really convenient for people, especially the elderly who perhaps can’t get about quite as easily.”

Joe Tray, chairman of the Stratton St Margaret Parish Council, was also pleased to see the service resume.

He said: “It’s brilliant that this has opened - it will be a great addition for the people of Stratton.

“We were very keen to see the counter installed and we are sure it will be of huge benefit.”
