TWO rare breed sheep have been left injured after they were chased by dogs in a field in Rowde, near Devizes.

Police are appealing for information after the incident at about 6pm on September 19. A police spokesman said: "Two small dogs were seen off their lead and not under their owner’s control whilst walking in a private field containing sheep.

"The dogs chased the sheep causing one sheep to sustain a leg injury and a second to jump into a barbed wire fence in an effort to escape one of the dogs who had locked onto it."

Police say the dogs' owner was a white woman, aged about 40, of medium build, with long dark hair worn in a ponytail, wearing a navy gilet and hood, pale jeans and boots. One of the dogs with her was described as a Border Terrier type breed and the second a smooth haired, tri-coloured Terrier/Dachshund type breed.

"The woman was spoken to by the land owner before the attack and asked repeatedly to recall her dogs which she failed to do. The dog owner made no attempt to recall or regain control of the dogs while the incident unfolded."

Following the incident the woman and her dogs left the area in the direction of Marsh Lane, Rowde.

The owner of the ewes, which are a rare breed of Oxford Down sheep, called a vet after the incident concerned that the stress of the attack may result in the death of some of her flock due to shock.

If you recognise the description of the woman or her dogs, or if you have information in relation to the incident, please call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
