KIDS and grown-ups will enjoy a day of circus tricks next month as a primary school looks to raise enough cash to transform its garden.

Parents and teachers at St Francis CofE Primary School in Taw Hill will on Sunday, October 8 roll out the red carpet for a fabulous circus act to entertain the crowds.

Organisers are looking for that last little push to sell the remaining 150 tickets.

The aim of the fundraising drive is to erect a peaceful garden area for pupils who, according to PTA member Abbie Pitts-Drake, “don’t like the hustle and bustle of playtimes”.

Circus event organiser Abbie, 33, of North Swindon, said: “We want to turn the garden into a quiet corner for the children and we thought we would do something slightly different and have a circus come.

“It’s an event open to the whole community and there will be stalls, a fancy dress parade with prizes, a raffle, the Cotswold Pizza Company, a BBQ and much more.”

The circus show lasts two hours and will all the classic circus favourites.

Becky Fullarton, teacher and outside co-ordinator at St Francis, said: “Turning the garden into a peaceful area is an idea we have had for a while now.

“We have always want to have a calm area for the children to go to relax and reflect.

"There will be a nice little seating area furnished with mirrors and chalkboards and benches. We want to make it look magical and we are very grateful for the support we have received."

Looking ahead to the fundraising day next month, Becky said: “It is the first time we will ever have had a circus come to visit, so it’s very exciting.”

Staff are hoping for work to start by the end of October or beginning of November, and are keen to get as many people along to the circus day as possible.

The gates open at noon and the show starts at 2pm at St Francis’s.

Tickets cost £11.50 adult and £9.50 child and can be obtained by visiting www.eventbrite.co.uk.
