A TEATIME favourite antiques expert will leave ceramics lovers potty for pottery this weekend.

Antiques Roadshow’s Eric Knowles is speaking at an event organised by Old Town jewellers’ Deacons on Saturday about English pottery firm Moorcroft.

Founded over a century ago, the Stoke-on-Trent-based firm made its name with collections of beautifully-illustrated “art pottery”.

A century later, Moorcroft is still based in Staffordshire – and says its designs are regularly bought by the Queen for her Royal Collection of art.

In a talk titled From Sparta to Stoke, Eric Knowles will outline the long history of the firm. He will give two talks, at 11am and 2pm, in The Kings, opposite Deacons’ Wood Street store.

Painter Hayley Moore will also join pottery lovers on the day.

The artist, who started working at Moorcroft 30 years ago, will demonstrate hand painting ceramics and “tube lining” – a technique of decorating ceramics with a thinly-squeezed line of clay.

The day-long celebration of Moorcroft will be on Saturday, October 14, from 10am-4pm.

To reserve a place for the talks pottery fans will need to purchase a £25 Deacons gift voucher. For more, contact Deacons on 01793 522072.
