PUPILS at Melksham Oak Community School are making progress above the national average, according to figures published in October.

The provisional 2017 results for Key Stage 4 in state-funded secondary schools, including pupil destinations, show that for the fifth time in the last six years, Melksham Oak pupils made progress from Year 7 to Year 11 above the national average.

Melksham Oak’s Progress 8 score stands at +0.04. The Progress 8 score is a recently-introduced Government figure for the progress pupils make at a school compared to all of the other schools in England.

Head teacher Stephen Clark said: “We are rightly proud of this government statistic, which shows we are in the top 30 per cent of schools in Wiltshire.

“This demonstrates how well the young people do at Melksham Oak. This is due to our focus on supporting and challenging every one of our pupils to do their best.”

The Progress 8 score is based on results in up to eight qualifications, which include English, maths, three English Baccalaureate qualifications including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and three other additional approved qualifications, with zero being the national average.

Mr Clark added: “This demonstrates the hard work of all our pupils, parents and staff and places our pupils in strong positions to be able to make the next step for them, whether that be continuing in education or moving into employment or training.

“These figures are proof of our continued drive to be a great school for our community.”

The provisional results cover the KS4 performance of pupils Melksham Oak at the end of the academic year in July and were published last month.

In January, the Government will publish revised figures, which will include updates, for example due to late results, amendments following re-mark requests and pupil changes made via the schools checking exercise.

These will include more detailed breakdowns than the provisional data. To see the provisional figures, go to https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/school/141911
