A TEAM from Carers Support Wiltshire will be taking part in Carers Rights Day tomorrow (24)

The national day is being held to recognise the unpaid carers across the UK who look after a family member or friend who is ill, disabled or frail.

There are over 47,500 carers in Wiltshire, with many providing over 50 hours of care a week.

This year the Carer Support Wiltshire team will be out and about in the regions hospitals, raising awareness and talking to carers about the support available to them.

The team will be at Salisbury District Hospital at their Springs Restaurant, (Level 2) for a drop in information session between 10.30am and 2.30pm, at the Great Western Hospital with Swindon Carers Centre and at the Royal United Hospital in Bath with BANES Carers’ Centre.

The Carer Support Wiltshire team will also be at County Hall in Trowbridge and Trowbridge College with information for young adult carers juggling studying with a caring role.

Last year, research from Carers UK showed that many people who look after loved ones don't see themselves as carers and miss out on vital help, advice and information.

Carers Rights Day is an annual national awareness campaign organised by the charity Carers UK. It aims to reach many of the 6.5 million carers in the UK with information about their rights, and the financial and practical help to which they are entitled. This can include state benefits, respite and access to equipment and technology that can help them in their caring role.
