A CYCLIST from Trowbridge who suffered serious concussion and whiplash from a heavy fall is looking for the Good Samaritans who stopped to help him.

Deej Hussey, of Godley Lane, was cycling home for lunch from his Melksham fitness studio, New Era Fitness, when he rode through a slippery patch and fell head-first off his bike on the roundabout between Hilperton Drive and Ashton Road on December 4.

Three men and a woman got out of their cars and rushed over to look after the dazed 30-year-old, before he was taken to Bath’s Royal United Hospital for a CT scan.

Now Mr Hussey is back at work, albeit battered and bruised, he is keen to track down the heroes and heroine who put their day on hold for him.

“It was a bit of a blur, but I remember them being fantastically helpful. They did pretty vital work picking me up, taking me to safety and just reassuring me that I would be okay – if I could thank them in person, that would be amazing,” said Mr Hussey.

“Where I fell off was only 500m or so away from my house. I remember losing control on a slimy bit of road, and I ended up coming off. Luckily I have an extremely good helmet so that bore the brunt of the damage.

“A fool like me would have just got up and tried to walk it home but that could have gone very badly. I thought I was fine but they insisted I go to hospital.

“It turned out I needed an ambulance, some scans and some morphine but I didn’t break anything. I had a pretty heavy concussion for a few days, but other than whiplash, along with bruising and swelling, I was very lucky – although I did feel a bit like I had been punched in the face by Mike Tyson."

Mr Hussey, who lives with his wife Aimee and eight-month-old daughter Avery, has managed to track down one of the men who helped him on the day, and now wants to find the other three helpers.

“If I could thank them in person, that would be amazing. Things like this restore your faith in humanity,” he said.

“Nobody really likes each other on the roads, whatever transport you use, so for them to do this is very touching.

“They put me first in their day – they didn’t have to do that, but they did. I am so grateful to them. Also, I have received so many kind messages and texts which is so nice. Aimee was doing most of the responses as it was hurting my head.

“The paramedics and the hospital staff did a great job as well.”
