AN elderly couple who both fell over during a shopping trip have thanked emergency services and store staff for helping them.

Pam and Howard May from Devizes were in The Brittox on Saturday when Mrs May stumbled and her husband in trying to stop her falling went over backwards and banged his head.

Mrs Howard, 84, said: "People were so kind. Howard's head was bleeding and people called for an ambulance. A paramedic showed up quickly and then the police also came. Howard was treated on the spot.

"They were worried we were getting cold so they moved us to Boots where the staff made us a cup of tea."

Retired builder Mr May, 85, had driven into town but police offered to take his car home for him and the ambulance team took Mr and Mrs May back to their house and made sure they were both safe and well before leaving.

Mrs May said: "I hurt my knee but it isn't too bad. Howard's head stopped bleeding quite quickly but he has been feeling a bit dizzy. We want to thank everyone who helped us. We really appreciate everything that was done for us."
