A LOCAL micro-brewery was invited to showcase one of its beers at the 30th CAMRA Great British Beer Festival in Earls Court, London this week.

Rev Awdry's Ale from The Box Steam Brewery was one of 450 chosen and it proved popular as more than an 18-gallon barrel was sold during the trade session alone - before the doors to the public even opened.

The brewery, run by Gordon King and Andrew Roberts from Oaks Farm near Colerne, has recently undergone expansion and it has doubled its production and serves an increasing number of local pubs. For more details call 01225 858383.

  • The brewery helped to raise £830 for Dorothy House at the first Inn at Freshford Beer Festival on July 27-28. Twenty real ales were available, including those from Box Steam Brewery.

There were also three ciders, one perry, live music, a hog roast and a barbecue. Organisers are planning a second beer festival next year.
