AN explosion in Eldene last night was not connected to the gas network, a utilities provider has said.

Emergency services were scrambled to a property on Ecklington in Eledene shortly before 4pm yesterday afternoon.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that a patient - believed to be a teenage girl - had been airlifted to hospital by the air ambulance.

Engineers from Wales & West Utilities as well as building control officers from Swindon Borough Council also attended the incident.–

A spokesperson for Wales & West Utilities said: “We have now finished our investigation into an explosion at a home in the Ecklington area of Swindon.

“The explosion was not related to our gas network. We believe it may have been caused by the use of a gas within the home, and we continue to support local emergency services as required.

“Our thoughts are with the young lady injured and we wish her a swift recovery.”
