MORE than 100 youngsters and their families braved weather conditions usually associated with Christmas for the Croft Primary School's popular annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday.

Organised by the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Dad's Club, the hunt saw pupils and their siblings follow a series of clues around the school, solving puzzles along the way in order to find a huge pile of chocolate Easter eggs.

Given the weather, some of the clues were well-planned to keep the hunters warm, with tasks including jumping on the spot, and counting the leaves on a tree.

Among some of the parents attending the hunt was Rachel Ashton from Old Town who brought daughter Pippa - who's a pupil at the school - with younger sister Erica along for the fun. Supervising her daughters' efforts to "pretend to be a pirate" as part of the hunt, she said: "So far, so good - but we have only found one clue so far! It's great to have the PTA and the Dad's Club organising this event, it helps support the community of the school, which supports the wider community."

As well as the hunt there was face painting and a pre-loved baby items sale.

Organiser of the Dad's Club Andy Lovegrove said that the hunt, now in its third year, had gone really well. He said: "The weather wasn't what we were expecting for this time of year, but everyone is embracing it and really enjoying the hunt.

"The idea of the club is to get the dads involved with their children, and they all seem to be enjoying it today."
