WILTSHIRE Council has today triggered its Severe Weather Emergency Provisions to help people who are sleeping rough.
The council has a statutory duty to provide severe weather emergency provisions (SWEP) to anyone who is sleeping rough when the weather is predicted to fall to 0 degrees or below for three consecutive nights.
A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said: “We have today triggered those provisions with temperatures forecast to be at low and below zero temperatures until Wednesday next week based on current predictions.
“As a result, we are offering overnight accommodation for those affected and individuals should attend our Housing Options Hubs as soon as possible for help and support.
“We have advice hubs at Monkton Park in Chippenham, County Hall in Trowbridge and Bourne Hill in Salisbury and work with partner agencies to support individuals, not just during the worst weather but also by looking at longer term housing solutions as part of this process.”
To access the provisions, please call during work hours. Advice services can be contacted on Chippenham 01249 706666, Trowbridge 01225 718005 or Salisbury 01722 434233.
If you are calling after 5pm, please contact Wiltshire Council’s Emergency Team on 0300 456 0100.
