Verging on ridiculous

Again the toothless lions we call Swindon Borough Council will be doing absolutely nothing to try and stop car owners parking on verges.

I read the letter in the SA on the 22nd and totally agree these verges will be completely destroyed and never ever again become part of our ever decreasing green and beautiful land.

The main reason I can see is no one has any pride in the appearance of the verges it’s a I’m alright Jack I’m parking here because nothing will happen.

Some time ago a gentleman got a right royal pasting by an SBC employee because he laid some decorative stone outside his house because he was fed up with looking at the damaged verge outside his house but got told to put it back, ruts and all.

I really do wish that same SBC Highways Inspector went to look at the destroyed - and I mean totally destroyed - verges in the Peatmoor area, it is a total eyesore.

You keep banging the drum, SBC, about the need to bring new business to the town but when new companies do a recce drive through the first thing they see is this mess; seeing that would make me think twice.

SBC shouldn’t turn a blind eye to who is responsible; we can really stamp our feet and show them who’s the boss. Grow some teeth!

A broken promise

British fishermen are disappointed that this country will not now be taking back control of its fishing waters as promised in the 2016 referendum.

They had been looking forward to starting a wonderful financial bonanza for the British fishing industry during 2019.

But unfortunately control of Britain’s fisheries has been negotiated back into the hands of the EU as part of an over all trade deal.

Waiting to happen

What a surprise. An Uber self driving car has run over and killed a poor unsuspecting victim, Elaine Herzberg in Arizona. I’m so sorry for her and her family.

An experiment in technology that many of us doubted and many knew it was a disaster waiting to happen but were shouted down. When will people realise that technology can be amazing but it is never ever foolproof?

You can programme robots to do welding in a static position. You can programme robots to direct letters in a static mail room. But to let such technology loose among the general living, breathing human public will never ever be safe and I hope this incident will highlight this risk forever.
