The University of the Third Age group in Bradford on Avon has marked its fifth birthday, having gone from strength to strength.
In 2013, a small group of women had the vision to start a U3A group in the town to provide ‘learning, activities and fun’ to older people.
They organised a meeting to gauge interest and were amazed as the venue filled and then overflowed with people. When a queue stretched around the building they realised their idea was a winner.
Current chairman Wendy O’Grady said: “After that overwhelming response the small committee worked hard to establish a healthy and lively organisation.
“The vision and drive of that original committee means this organisation has provided so much enjoyment and stimulation for retired folk in and around the town.”
The U3A group now has over 350 members who enjoy over 30 different activities, like science and engineering, table tennis, photography and history, as well as monthly meetings at the United Church with guest speakers and outings.
