POLICE sealed off scene of what appeared to be a violent incident in west Swindon.

Officers closed off part of Corfe Road, Toothill, and guarded a terraced home on the street into the evening.

This Is Wiltshire:

999 crews, including paramedics and the fire service, attended the scene earlier this evening.

Wiltshire Police are yet to confirm the reason for sealing off the home, although neighbours report that a violent row had spilled out onto the street. Glass debris from smashed beer bottles could be seen strewn along Corfe Road.

Officers at the scene told the Swindon Advertiser that there was no risk to the public and that firefighters had merely been called as a precaution. A woman was being treated by paramedics at the scene, it is understood.

This Is Wiltshire:

Residents reacted with shock at seeing such a heavy emergency service presence on their otherwise quiet street.

One woman, who did not want to give her name, said: "People don't feel safe."

Another, 41, watching officers at the police crime scene tape, said: "It's a quiet area. I have lived here for about 12 years and the only fire engines you see are for the old people's home - nothing like this."

UPDATE: 9.15pm: Police have left Corfe Road. A private security contractor remains at the scene.
