ONE year on from taming the dragons in Dragons Den, entrepreneur Dylan Watkins has walked away from the Wiltshire Business Awards as the Start-Up Business of the Year with Poppy's Picnic.

Mr Watkins, who produces and sells raw healthy dog food from his base in Bromham, took home the coveted award sponsored by The Enterprise Network for the business' phenomenal success this year.

"This is great," he said. "We are trying to get some recognition for our Wiltshire side of the business as we make our food in Wiltshire and we source all of our ingredients in Wiltshire too, so to win this award is fantastic.

"It’s going from strength to strength and I can’t believe it. We are building our first plant soon - the planning application is going in next week - and we have our cat food range coming out at the end of the month.

The Squeaky Cleaners were named as the runners-up and The Sound Emporium. who were unable to attend the event, took third.

Claire Nichols, owner of the Squeeky Cleaners, which operates around a 15 mile radius of Chippenham, said: "It is the first time we have entered for an award, so to come away with second place is fantastic.

"I am nothing without my staff, so this is for them."
