SHRIVENHAM manager Gareth Davies says nothing less than victory will do tonight in his side’s quest for promotion to the Hellenic League Premier Division as they prepare for their final game of the season.

Davies’ troops sit second in the Division One West table but cannot overhaul the deficit to leaders Ardley United even with a win at North Leigh United this evening.

With the top two likely to go up, Shrivvy’s promotion is not certain as third-placed Easington Sports are only three points behind with a game in hand.

And Sports already boast a better goal difference than the Barrington Park side, so three points on the road is a must for Shrivenham.

Although Davies knows that a win in Oxfordshire may not even be enough for his team in their quest to climb into the top tier, the Shrivvy boss is determined to at least give themselves the best possible chance.

“Ourselves and Easington could finish up on the same points, although I think they have scored a few more goals than us so that might come into it,” said Davies.

“It’s very tight but it is great to be in there with a chance.

“All we can do is make sure we do our bit and then just see what happens. We can’t control what anyone else does.

“It might be that we need a favour from someone else, but first and foremost, we have to get three points on Monday – that is a must.

“There were a few people missing when we last played on Wednesday so will have a couple more players back on Monday, and we will go to North Leigh looking to get three points to see where that takes us.”

Lewis Petrie is unavailable tonight after suffering a fractured ankle but Josh Morse and Dave Bampton are likely to be in contention to return after missing Shrivvy’s last match – the narrow 2-1 win at home to Woodstock Town last Wednesday.

In the Premier Division, Fairford Town are scheduled to travel to Brimscombe & Thrupp, while Highworth Town are away at Burnham in the semi-finals of the Supplementary Cup.

No local sides were in action in league fixtures over the weekend.
