LEE Spalding has urged his Swindon Supermarine players to approach training with a strong attitude ahead of the club’s final Southern League West fixture at home to Barnstaple Town next weekend.

Marine earned a 5-0 win against bottom club Bishops Cleeve on Saturday, leaving Spalding’s men four points within the play-off frame.

But chasing Cirencester Town and Bideford have games in hand, making the concluding fixture against Barnstaple a must-win, according to Spalding.

He said: “Our schedule has been demanding, and perhaps slightly unfair on us.

“But you have to deal with whatever is put in front of you.

“Generally, we’ve coped well with four games in seven days. Saturday was a tough test for us.

“After the game, I mentioned to the team that we have to come to training this week with a strong attitude.

“Saturday is a must-win if we are to have a vision towards reaching the play-offs.”

Despite conceding two early corners against Bishops Cleeve, Marine took the lead in the eighth minute thanks to Ryan Campbell’s effort.

Brad Hooper soon increased the lead before Campbell doubled his goal tally on the half-hour mark.

Callum Parsons struck in the 76th minute before Bradley Gray rounded off the scoring with an injury time strike.

Spalding said: “Any team at the bottom of the league are likely to concede goals.

“As soon as you score one goal, the game changes.

“I was delighted with the result and performance of our players.

“All we can do now is focus on the game we have left.

“It was a hard run prior to Saturday’s game with a busy week.

“Looking back on that week, we earned three draws against three good sides.

“We’re in a good position.”

Should Supermarine win against Barnstaple on Saturday, the only way Spalding’s men would miss out on a play-off spot would be if Bristol Manor Farm and Bideford win their remaining games.
