FRESHFORD United are homing in on the Division One title following their 4-0 victory over Semington Magpies.

Chris Birleson’s side need four points from a possible nine and with Magpies next up on Tuesday evening they will be confident of moving closer to lifting the trophy with a quick-fire double over Bobby Mitchell’s side.

Dave Percival played a major part in Freshford’s latest win, Dean Ranger set him up for the opener and he then won and scored the penalty that put them 2-0 up at the break.

Percival then won the free kick from which Ali Jaffari scored his first goal for the club to make it 3-0 and another Percival free kick picked out Kubilay De’Vanney who completed the scoring to give Birleson’s side a nine-point lead over Luxol St Andrews.

Having missed out on silverware in the Knockout Cup Final on Tuesday evening when they lost 1-0 to Luxol St Andrews, Stockton & Codford saw their chances of winning the title disappear after they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Hilperton United.

Chris Foley gave Hilperton the lead which was cancelled out by Sam Dufosee’s 36th-minute effort. Alfie Francis’s header saw Hilperton retake the lead and a second from Foley wrapped up the points for Jason Rose side who, after four wins on the spin, are safe from relegation.

Calne Eagles, who picked a huge win in their battle to beat the drop when they defeated Westbury United Development on Wednesday evening, were unable to build on that success at another of the relegation-threatened sides, Warminster Town Reserves, who eased their own fears with a 2-1 win.

Eagles need to rely on Trowbridge Town Reserves losing one of their final two games to be guaranteed safety.

After a goalless first half Paul Farrell put Warminster ahead, Josh Madle restored parity for Calne before Simon Farrell netted the winner for the home team.
